Noise?

Postby marianito » Tue Feb 11, 2014 2:08 pm

Hello everyone. By looking at this picture:
http://www.telescope.org/v3imagegallery ... 18&back=20
Many points are noted on the black background. Are stars or is it noise?

Salud!

That is noise caused by the Earth's atmosphere. I suggest using a program like Paint.Net (which is free) to lessen the noise. You can also use ImageJ which processes the telescope's .fits files to also lessen the noise. Fits files can be downloaded under the "More" tab.
ImageJ is also free.
Paint.Net is here:

and ImageJ is here:

Note: ImageJ flips photos over vertically so I like to flip them back over with Paint.Net.
