Expiation of filters when making a request

Postby MaryO » Fri Nov 15, 2013 12:33 am

I am new to the site, is there an explanation of what the filters are/mean when creating a request? There are different filters for different observation types.

E.g For a planet you get:

O-III filter
No filter
Neutral density 3 filter
Infra Red light only
H-Alpha filter
Johnson B
Johnson V
Johnson R
Colour image (BVR)

Would it be possible to add an explanation next to each filter or a help button which pops up the explanation.

Thanks

That is a FANTASTIC description of the filters. It's incredibly informative, and the pics do a good job of illustration. Maybe there ought to be a link to that article on the filters page. It's great info for beginners. I had a vague idea of the type of lovely sharp images that H-Alpha produced, but knowing why and what it's actually measuring is much better. Love to learn about this kind of stuff!
